Elements Green acquires 300MW Newarthill battery energy storage system project in Scotland from Geocore

Type: Acquisition · Technology: Storage · Country: United Kingdom · Capacity: 300 MW · Announced: 2026-05-07

Elements Green completed the acquisition of the 300MW Newarthill battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Scotland from Geocore for an undisclosed sum. The transmission-connected project, located near Motherwell, is planned to have a two-hour duration with potential expansion to four hours and is targeted for energisation in October 2029. Elements Green secured planning consent for the project on 4 February 2025 and obtained a grid offer from the National Electricity System Operator (NESO) through the grid reform process. The acquisition strengthens Elements Green’s UK battery energy storage pipeline amid growing demand for long-duration storage assets that support renewable energy integration and network flexibility. The Newarthill project is situated near the B6 and B4 grid boundaries in a constrained area of the UK transmission network, making it a strategically important grid node within Scotland where material renewable generation coincides with system constraints.
