Emerson awarded multi-million-dollar automation contract by BP for Shah Deniz Compression project

BP awarded Emerson a multi-million-dollar contract to deliver integrated control and safety systems for the Shah Deniz Compression project in the Caspian Sea off Azerbaijan. The $2.9 billion project includes an electrically powered, normally unattended offshore production platform scheduled for completion in 2029, designed to access low-pressure gas reserves and maximize recovery. Emerson will provide its DeltaV Distributed Control System and DeltaV Safety Instrumented System, enabling real-time visibility and remote control of critical operations from BP's onshore Sangachal terminal 55 km south of Baku. The platform will feature four 11MW compressors and serve as the central compression hub for gas from the Shah Deniz Alpha and Bravo platforms, with first gas compression expected from Shah Deniz Alpha in 2029 and Bravo in 2030. The project is expected to enable approximately 50 billion cubic meters of additional gas and around 25 million barrels of condensate production and export.
