ENDE awards pre-investment design consultancy contract for 120 MW Chichas Solar Plant in Bolivia
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Solar · Country: Bolivia · Capacity: 120 MW · Value: $110M · Announced: 2026-06-18
Empresa Nacional de Electricidad de Bolivia (ENDE) awarded a pre-investment design consultancy contract for the 120 MW Chichas Solar Plant in Tupiza, Potosí department, Bolivia. The project will be built on 110 hectares in the Hornillos rural community and is financed by CAF – Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe with a $110 million loan covering solar infrastructure, photovoltaic equipment, grid interconnection, civil and electrical works, and complementary services. The solar plant is expected to generate 279,000 MWh annually, sufficient to power 318,000 people connected to Bolivia's National Interconnected System (SIN), while displacing natural gas-based thermoelectric generation. ENDE operates four existing solar plants in Bolivia, including Oruro (100 MW), Uyuni I (62.5 MW after expansion), Yunchará (5 MW), and Cobija (5 MW), and the Chichas project aligns with Bolivia's 2024–2050 National Interconnected System Expansion Plan targeting 75% renewable energy share by 2032.
