ETW Energietechnik GmbH awarded main contractor role to build HKW 3c CHP plant for Stadtwerke Duisburg

ETW Energietechnik GmbH was named as main contractor to plan, construct and turnkey hand over the HKW 3c combined heat and power (CHP) plant for Stadtwerke Duisburg. The contract covers structural and civil engineering for an 80 x 30-metre building, mechanical and plant engineering, three 60-metre chimneys, and all electrical and heating systems for the Wanheim Energy Park refurbishment. The new HKW 3c will replace an existing gas turbine plant and operate 15 highly efficient gas engines with overall efficiency of 94.9%, providing flow temperatures up to 120 °C to the local district heating network. All gas engines are hydrogen-ready and can be converted to 100% hydrogen operation or run on biomethane (RNG), with the article noting that as of 2026-09-15 biomethane produced in Germany is cheaper than fossil natural gas. The project forms a core element of Stadtwerke Duisburg's Wanheim Energy Park decarbonisation programme and ETW Energietechnik's scope explicitly includes turnkey EPC delivery across key trades.
