The European Space Agency awarded a 30-month contract on 2026-09-28 to OVHcloud and CGI to design and implement the Digital EO (Digital Earth Observation) sovereign digital infrastructure. The platform will pool cloud storage, computing capacity and AI tools to store and process Europe’s Earth observation satellite data, targeting the Copernicus programme and the DestinE initiative which ESA expects to hold over 500 petabytes of data by 2035. Deployment work is planned across Italy, France and Germany, with operational support based in Poland under the contract running for 30 months. The award follows an earlier €180 million cloud tender for European firms and is presented as part of a European push to keep strategic satellite workloads with regional providers. The contract establishes OVHcloud and CGI (including CGI France Défense et Spatial) as the implementation partners for ESA’s sovereign data storage and processing stack for Earth observation data.
