Type: Financing · Technology: Solar · Country: Colombia · Capacity: 13 MWp · Announced: 2026-05-18

Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional has approved a senior debt of up to 37.481 billion Colombian pesos, approximately $10 million, for Verano Energy's 13 MWp Chicala solar project. The project, located in the department of Atlántico, is expected to start operations in 2026 and will generate around 26 GWh of energy per year, enough to power over 7,000 Colombian households. The financing has a term of up to 14 years and covers 100% of the project's debt. Verano Energy acquired the project in 2023, along with two other solar projects, Las Palmeras and Bambú. In February 2025, Verano Energy signed a power purchase agreement with AES Colombia for the Chicala project. The project's construction is already underway, with an estimated investment of $11 million. The Chicala solar project will connect to the Sabanalarga substation, operated by Transelca, a subsidiary of Grupo ISA.
