Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri agreed to acquire majority stakes in four companies—Next Geosolutions, WSense, Graal Tech, and Defcomm—for an initial expenditure of $687 million (€600 million) to expand its underwater technological capabilities. Next Geosolutions provides marine survey and geoscience services, WSense specializes in underwater communications, while Graal Tech and Defcomm focus on autonomous underwater and surface vehicles respectively. The acquisitions will integrate these companies into Fincantieri’s Underwater technological hub, creating a platform spanning hardware, software, telecommunications, and underwater services. The expanded platform will employ about 1,500 professionals across Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Norway, and the UAE, serving both defense and commercial markets including subsea infrastructure protection and maritime security. Fincantieri’s CEO Pierroberto Folgiero stated the deals mark a historic transformation, accelerating profitability and strengthening presence in a fast-growing dual-use market. The transactions follow prior acquisitions including WASS in 2025 and Remazel in 2024, positioning Fincantieri as an international champion in underwater technologies.
