First WATT Renewable and MTN Nigeria partner to deploy 34 MWp solar PV and 40 MWh battery storage across critical facilities in Nigeria
Type: Partnership · Technology: Solar, Storage · Country: Nigeria · Capacity: 34 MWp · Announced: 2026-06-15
First WATT Renewable Limited and MTN Nigeria formalized a partnership to deploy 34 MWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity and 40 MWh of battery energy storage systems across critical facilities and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Nigeria. The initiative targets a 25,000-tonne reduction in carbon emissions over five years by displacing diesel generators and enhancing energy resilience for MTN Nigeria’s operations. The solar PV and battery storage systems will be integrated into MTN Nigeria’s existing infrastructure, including network towers and data centers, to improve operational reliability and sustainability. First WATT Renewable, a clean energy developer, will lead the project’s design, construction, and operation, while MTN Nigeria will serve as the primary offtaker and strategic partner. The collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s broader energy transition goals and MTN Nigeria’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.
