Forsee Power and Wabtec sign partnership to integrate lithium titanate batteries into battery-electric locomotives

Type: Partnership · Technology: Transport · Country: United States · Announced: 2026-06-18

Forsee Power and Wabtec signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate Forsee Power’s PULSE PLUS RAIL battery system into Wabtec’s battery-electric locomotive platforms. The PULSE PLUS RAIL system is built on Toshiba’s lithium titanate (LTO) cells and operates at up to 1,500 VDC, with an expected lifespan of up to 20 years. Forsee Power manufactures the system in Ohio, ensuring Buy America compliance for US freight and transit rail procurement. The lithium titanate chemistry supports high cycle counts, fast charging, and stable performance at temperature extremes, making it suitable for heavy rail applications with regenerative braking and overnight fast charging. The electrical architecture is designed for both freight and passenger locomotive applications.
