Friuli Region and MUR finance 8-10 MW solar project for Elettra Sincrotrone
Type: Financing · Technology: Solar · Country: Italy · Capacity: 10 MW · Announced: 2026-09-14
The Friuli region and the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) have provided a combined financing of 26.5 million euros to support the construction of the 'Green Energy' photovoltaic plant, which will cover 20-25% of the Elettra Sincrotrone di Trieste's energy demand. The project, located in the disused Cava Scoria in San Dorligo della Valle, will feature bifacial panels and a direct medium-voltage connection to the Elettra facility in Basovizza. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2028, the 8-10 MW plant aims to reduce the high electricity and natural gas consumption of the Elettra and Fermi machines, which account for approximately 32,000 MWh of electricity and 5.5 million cubic meters of gas annually. The initiative also includes environmental enhancements such as the planting of 8,000 trees and the creation of a visitor center.
