Gamuda Renewables acquires interest in Hazelwood North solar and battery project in Victoria, Australia
Type: Investment · Technology: Solar, Storage, Hybrid, Data Center · Country: Australia · Capacity: 450 MW · Announced: 2026-06-10
Gamuda Renewables announced it has acquired an interest in the Hazelwood North solar farm and battery energy storage project in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley, marking the company’s first Victorian asset. The project combines 450 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation with a 450 MW / 1,800 MWh battery energy storage system, positioning it among the largest proposed solar farms in the state. Development approval was secured through Victoria’s Development Facilitation Program, with construction slated to begin in 2028 and commercial operation expected by 2030, pending a final investment decision. The project’s developers are exploring the potential to co-locate a data centre on site, leveraging the large-scale renewable generation and storage to meet the digital infrastructure’s energy demands. Gamuda’s acquisition increases its Australian renewable energy portfolio to three assets across the National Electricity Market (NEM), including the Weasel solar and battery and Cellars Hill wind and battery projects in Tasmania.
