Gateway Capital partners with Lendlease to develop an 81MW data center in Sydney

Type: Partnership · Technology: Data Center · Country: Australia · Capacity: 81 MW · Value: $720M · Announced: 2026-08-27

Gateway Capital and Lendlease have entered a partnership to develop the Frederick Street Data Centre, a 81MW facility on a 1.8‑hectare former industrial site in St Leonards, Sydney. The five‑story building will cover 16,635 sqm, include an on‑site substation, 11 data halls and 44 generators, and may attract up to AU$1 billion ($720 million) in investment. Construction and operation will be jointly carried out by the two firms, with the project slated to address Sydney's constrained data‑center capacity and growing demand for high‑density computing. The development repurposes historic brickworks warehouses, converting them into a modern digital‑infrastructure hub. The filing was made through a SEARS application to the New South Wales Government, marking Gateway Capital's first major foray into digital infrastructure.
