Google signs record carbon and methane removal deal with Terradot

Google and enhanced rock weathering company Terradot announced a partnership to implement climate solutions across more than 200,000 hectares of rice farms in Brazil, targeting 1 million tons of methane elimination by 2030 and 1 million tons of carbon removal by 2040. The project combines Alternate Wetting and Drying irrigation practices with crushed basalt rock application to reduce methane emissions and sequester carbon durably. This agreement represents Google's largest CO2 removal deal to date and the largest enhanced rock weathering project ever undertaken. Terradot, founded in 2022, accelerates natural rock weathering by spreading crushed volcanic rock over farmland to lock in CO2 and improve soil health.
