Grenergy and Chile's Ministry of Energy sign agreement to expand solar access to off-grid households in Antofagasta

Chile's Minister of Energy Ximena Rincón and Grenergy CEO David Ruiz de Andrés signed a partnership in Madrid on September 12, 2026, to advance the Luz Antofagasta project aimed at reducing electricity access gaps for off-grid households. The first stage, fully financed by Grenergy, will determine the technical, economic, and territorial scope of future phases. The initiative targets vulnerable households in the Antofagasta region, particularly in the communes of Tocopilla and Calama, using photovoltaic autoconsumption systems. The deal builds on Grenergy's recently inaugurated Elena battery storage facility, the sixth phase of its Oasis de Atacama platform, which features 3.5 GWh of storage capacity across 624 containers and 6,240 batteries. Grenergy has expanded its Antofagasta platform target to 2.5 GW solar and 14.1 GWh storage, while also advancing the 516.92 MWp Antofagasta 1 photovoltaic project with a 430 MW / 3,010 MWh BESS, backed by a 520 million USD investment.
