GSK signs eight‑year carbon removal off‑take agreement with Varaha
Type: Partnership · Technology: Agriculture · Country: India · Announced: 2026-09-11
GSK signed an eight‑year agreement to purchase more than 500,000 carbon credits from Varaha, a nature‑based solutions developer. The credits will be generated by expanding Varaha’s regenerative agriculture project across 50,000 hectares of farmland in the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana. The deal will deliver around 100,000 tonnes of carbon removal credits annually between 2028 and 2033, supporting GSK’s net‑zero target of a 90% emissions reduction by 2045. By subsidising machinery and sharing carbon‑credit revenue, the project also raises smallholder farmer incomes by 12‑16% and saves roughly 59.5 billion liters of water. The transaction was structured by the investment platform Earthly, linking a global biopharma firm with a climate‑focused agritech developer.
