H2PRO and Sun Systems Group sign MoU to develop a 150 MW renewable hydrogen plant in Tarragona
Type: Partnership · Technology: Hydrogen · Country: Spain · Capacity: 150 MW · Announced: 2026-06-16
H2PRO and Sun Systems Group formalized a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop a 150 MW renewable hydrogen production plant in Tarragona, Spain, powered exclusively by solar photovoltaic energy. The project will feature an initial 25 MW electrolyzer capacity, scaling to 50 MW and ultimately reaching 150 MW by 2032, with annual production of 1.25 million kilograms of renewable hydrogen. Sun Systems Group will supply the solar power through dedicated photovoltaic plants totaling 220 MWp near the project site, ensuring an isolated grid configuration uncommon in the sector. The hydrogen will primarily supply Tarragona’s chemical and petrochemical cluster, one of Southern Europe’s largest industrial hubs, while also exploring injection into Enagás’ gas transport network and future connection to Spain’s national hydrogen grid and the H2Med corridor. H2PRO’s proprietary electrolyzer technology is designed to operate with variable renewable energy inputs, reducing reliance on grid power and backup systems.
