Type: Partnership · Technology: Data Center · Country: United States · Announced: 2026-05-15
Hitachi and investment firm X Labs announced a partnership to develop behind-the-meter energy parks for colocated data centers across the US using an Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model. X Labs will establish special-purpose vehicles (SPVs) to design, develop, and operate these energy parks, with Hitachi providing transmission and distribution equipment, grid management products, and battery energy storage solutions through its Strategic SIB business unit. The first energy park is planned for completion in the early 2030s, targeting data center operators as end-users. Jun Taniguchi, CEO of Hitachi Strategic SIB, emphasized the critical need for reliable power supply amid AI-driven data center growth. Karan Trehan, CEO of X Labs, highlighted the attractiveness of the model enabled by US federal, state, and local incentives.
