Type: Partnership · Technology: Transport · Country: Poland · Announced: 2026-06-17

Hitachi Rail and Polish manufacturer Pesa Bydgoszcz signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly develop and supply 20 high-speed trains to PKP Intercity, with options for an additional 35 trains and 30 years of maintenance. The partnership includes technology transfer for welding aluminum train bodies and constructing double-deck trains at Pesa's Bydgoszcz plant, with initial production in Italy followed by phased local manufacturing in Poland. The agreement targets supplying fleets across Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, marking Pesa's next development phase after its 2018 acquisition by the Polish Development Fund. Hitachi will provide its ETR1000 high-speed train platform, already certified for operations in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain. The deal positions both companies to compete for future tenders, including those planned by Port Polska Central Communication Port (CPK) for high-speed and regional rail services west of Warsaw.
