Hyundai Motor Türkiye (HMTR) allocated €55 million of its total €715 million investment to construct a new battery assembly plant in Izmit, Turkey, to support production of the IONIQ 3 electric vehicle. The facility will integrate battery cells with an automation system in collaboration with Hyundai Mobis, using 27 robots for contactless packaging. Scheduled to begin operations in August 2026, the plant aims to produce 27,000 battery units in its first year and over 40,000 units in 2027. HMTR will source nickel-manganese cobalt (NMC) battery cells from Hungary and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) short-range batteries from China for the factory. The IONIQ 3 will be available for sale in Turkey starting September 2026 with two battery and power options.
