IFSP and Cenion launch partnership to develop national BMS for off‑grid solar storage

IFSP Campus São João da Boa Vista and the battery specialist Cenion signed a research and development partnership to create a national Battery Management System (BMS) for lithium‑ion batteries used in off‑grid photovoltaic installations. The first prototype will be a 24‑volt, 20 Ah battery pack aimed at micro‑generation, motorhomes and portable camping systems, with laboratory testing scheduled through the end of 2026. The joint project targets future extensions to larger stationary storage and behind‑the‑meter applications, aligning with Brazil’s expanding distributed generation market. Cenion, which has over five years of lithium‑battery experience, will lead the engineering while IFSP will provide academic expertise and student involvement, including technician João Henrique Lima. The collaboration is expected to conclude by December 2026, delivering a locally‑designed BMS that reduces reliance on imported solutions and enhances data autonomy for Brazilian energy storage.
