Ilunion Batteries, a subsidiary of Ilunion dedicated to lithium battery recycling and management, received environmental authorization from the regional government to construct a 3,900-tonne-per-year LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery recycling facility in Boecillo, Valladolid. The plant will operate 24/7 and process up to 3,900 tonnes of complete LFP batteries annually, generating 1,500 tonnes of black mass, of which 500 tonnes will be processed on-site and 1,000 tonnes sent to authorized recyclers. The facility will employ a three-phase process: manual disassembly of discharged modules and cells, mechanical separation of materials such as aluminum, copper, iron, and graphite, and hydrometallurgical treatment to recover lithium carbonate and iron phosphate compounds.
