Inpex acquires Jera's 0.735% participating interest in Ichthys LNG
Type: Acquisition · Technology: Gas, Oil Gas · Country: Australia · Announced: 2026-09-25
Inpex agreed on 25 September 2026 to acquire Jera's 0.735% participating interest in the Ichthys LNG project, increasing its subsidiaries' combined stake to 68.555% from 67.82%. The transaction covers Jera's interest in exploration blocks WA-50-L and WA-51-L, which include the Ichthys gas-condensate field, and shares in Ichthys LNG Pty Ltd that owns the project's gas export pipeline and downstream liquefaction facilities. The Ichthys LNG development liquefies natural gas and conducts LNG marketing activities and includes the export pipeline and onshore liquefaction infrastructure in Australia. Completion of the acquisition is subject to conditions including approvals from Australian government regulatory agencies and follows Jera's earlier decision in December 2025 to sell the same interest to MidOcean Energy. Inpex said the acquisition would have a minimal impact on its consolidated financial results, and the company exercised pre-emptive rights under joint operating and shareholders agreements to effect the purchase.
