Inpex and Unions Reach Agreement to End Ichthys LNG Strike
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Oil Gas · Country: Australia · Value: $200M · Announced: 2026-06-17
Australian unions, including the Offshore Alliance, Australian Workers Union, Maritime Union of Australia, and Electrical Trades Union, have reached an agreement with Inpex to end strikes at the Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) onshore and offshore facilities. The strike action, which began on June 2, disrupted LNG shipments and forced Inpex to shut down one of its two LNG production trains. The settlement is expected to result in material gains in job security, pay, career progression, workplace rights, and working arrangements for over 400 union members. The agreement includes a 3% annual raise on top of the consumer price index and ensures permanent jobs will not be outsourced to low-wage contractors, with improved roster flexibility offered to offshore workers. The strike was estimated to have cost Inpex $200 million in lost earnings.
