Type: Partnership · Technology: Data Center · Country: Italy · Announced: 2026-07-02
Italian banking giant Intesa Sanpaolo completed a cloud migration of its core IT systems to Google Cloud, utilizing Google's cloud regions hosted in TIM data centers located in Turin and Milan. The migration involved moving over 800 applications and decommissioning around the same number within the bank's headquarters, which operates dual sites in Milan and Turin. Massimo Proverbio, Intesa Sanpaolo's chief data, AI, and technology officer, highlighted that the partnership with Google Cloud and TIM reduced costs while laying the foundation for Isytech, a cloud-native digital technology platform serving the group's customers and colleagues. Elio Schiavo, TIM's chief enterprise & innovative solutions officer, emphasized that the program reinforced TIM Enterprise's role as a strategic partner in Italy's digital transformation, ensuring data control, security, and resilience through integrated data centers, connectivity, and cloud solutions. Google Cloud's Italian cloud regions were first launched in Milan in 2022, with Turin added in 2023, and TIM has since expanded its data center footprint in Italy with a €1 billion investment plan over the next three years.
