Type: Development · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: United States · Value: $765M · Announced: 2026-06-17
The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) reached an agreement with Invenergy on June 17, 2026, under which Invenergy will relinquish four offshore wind leases in exchange for a $765 million reimbursement. The settlement covers lease areas in the New York Bight, offshore California’s Central Coast, and the Gulf of Maine, including projects branded as Leading Light Wind, Even Keel Wind, and two floating wind initiatives. Invenergy will redirect the reimbursed funds into natural gas-fired power plants in Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri, as well as geothermal projects in the western United States. The agreement is part of the Trump administration's broader effort to halt new offshore wind development and shift investment toward conventional energy sources. Since the beginning of 2026, the administration has announced similar lease termination deals with TotalEnergies and developers behind the Golden State Wind and Bluepoint Wind projects.
