Invinity Energy Systems sells 32MWh vanadium redox flow battery project to Pacific Steel Group in California

Type: Sale · Technology: Storage · Country: United States · Capacity: 32 MWh · Announced: 2026-06-15

Invinity Energy Systems sold a 32MWh vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) project to Pacific Steel Group for deployment at the Mojave Micro Mill in Kern County, California, the first new steel mill in the state in 50 years. The project, expected online in 2027, will integrate with the plant’s microgrid and solar PV system to provide clean electricity, backup power, and optimize renewable energy use for the energy-intensive steel mill operations. The California Energy Commission (CEC) awarded Pacific Steel Group a $14 million grant in 2025 to support the project. Invinity’s VRFBs were selected for their technical, operational, and safety characteristics, including heavy cycling capability to match the mill’s fluctuating power demands.
