Type: Development · Technology: Data Center · Country: United States · Capacity: 50 MW · Announced: 2026-08-17

Iren, a cryptominer-turned-neocloud, delivered Horizon 1, the first of four 50MW (IT load) direct-to-chip liquid-cooled buildings, to Microsoft at its Childress, Texas campus. The milestone marks the completion of the initial phase of a five-year, $9.7bn cloud services contract signed between Iren and Microsoft in November 2025. Horizon 1 is part of a broader 750MW build-out across 576 acres at the Childress site, which was previously used for cryptomining operations. Iren's Co-Founder and Co-CEO Daniel Roberts highlighted the company's vertically integrated model and the execution by over 3,000 site team members. The remaining three buildings (Horizons 2-4) are scheduled for delivery later in 2026.
