Itaipu Binacional formalized action plans to deploy approximately 16.5 MW of distributed solar photovoltaic systems across 91 campuses of public higher education and technical institutions in Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul. The program, valued at BRL 102 million, includes BRL 53.8 million for solar plant installations, BRL 22.8 million for electrical infrastructure upgrades, and BRL 25.3 million for 39 research laboratories focused on renewable energy, storage, and energy efficiency. The solar systems are expected to generate annual savings of nearly BRL 10 million on energy bills for participating institutions, with funds redirected to teaching, research, and student assistance. The projects will occupy an area equivalent to about eight soccer fields, with BRL 82 million allocated to Paraná municipalities and BRL 20 million to institutions in Mato Grosso do Sul. The initiative aligns with the IPES/2025 public notice aimed at promoting energy transition in public educational institutions.
