James Fisher and Sons partners with Aquaterra Energy to launch a global offshore decommissioning partnership
Type: Partnership · Technology: Oil Gas · Country: United Kingdom · Announced: 2026-07-13
James Fisher and Sons and Aquaterra Energy announced a partnership to deliver integrated offshore decommissioning services worldwide. The collaboration merges James Fisher’s subsea operations and offshore execution with Aquaterra’s front‑end engineering and well‑access capabilities. The initial rollout targets the North Sea, Asia‑Pacific and the Middle East, where the UK Continental Shelf has 153 wells past decommissioning consent deadlines and the North Sea Transition Authority estimates $59 billion in required spend. The joint model will cut contractor interfaces, improve project hand‑overs and provide operators with predictable execution as more than 2,500 offshore structures are slated for removal by 2040. Combining early‑stage engineering with execution is intended to reduce offshore duration and lower overall decommissioning costs for asset owners. No financial terms were disclosed, and the partnership was presented as a scalable, field‑proven approach for the accelerating decommissioning market.
