Jupiter Telecommunications (JCOM), a Japanese broadband and electrical services operator owned by KDDI Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation, signed a solar virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with Osaka Gas Co. and its subsidiary Daigas Energy to supply renewable power and environmental credits to JCOM facilities in western Japan. The agreement covers power derived from new solar projects, with delivery expected to commence in October 2028. The exact capacity and financial terms of the vPPA were not disclosed in the report. This deal supports JCOM's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, aligning with its core infrastructure consisting of localized headends and data centers. Osaka Gas, one of Japan’s oldest energy utilities serving over 68 million households, will provide the renewable energy under the long-term agreement.
