JERA takes delivery of first LNG cargo from Australia's Barossa gas project via equity participation

JERA, Japan's largest power generation company, took delivery of its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the Barossa gas project offshore Australia's Northern Territory on June 12, 2026. The cargo arrived at JERA's Futtsu LNG terminal aboard the LNG carrier Sohshu Maru, marking the start of LNG deliveries from the project which began production in late 2025. The Barossa project has an annual LNG production capacity of approximately 3.4 million tonnes, with JERA entitled to about 425,000 tonnes per year through its equity interest in the project. The gas field supplies gas to the Darwin LNG facility for processing and export, with JERA participating via its subsidiary JERA Australia. This investment forms part of JERA's strategy to enhance supply security and flexibility for the Japanese market by diversifying LNG sources across the Asia-Pacific region, Middle East, United States, and other producing regions.
