Type: Investment · Technology: Geothermal · Country: Japan · Announced: 2026-07-15
JERA Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of JERA Co., Inc., has invested in Houston-based Quaise Energy to advance next-generation superhot geothermal technology. This investment will help fund Quaise's first commercial geothermal power plant, Project Obsidian, located in Oregon. The companies will also explore opportunities to commercialise Quaise's millimeter wave drilling technology in Japan, which is designed to access geothermal resources at depths beyond conventional methods. JERA believes this technology can expand geothermal power generation, helping Japan tap its large geothermal potential and strengthen domestic energy security. JERA aims to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 through renewable energy expansion.
