Type: Investment · Technology: Biomass · Country: Spain · Value: EUR 400M · Announced: 2026-06-19

KamBIO, a renewable energy company backed by Valoriza (a unit of Grupo Sacyr) and Kira Ventures, announced a €400 million investment to develop 20 advanced biogas plants across nine Spanish regions, including Galicia, Navarra, and Catalonia. Each facility will convert organic waste from agro-industrial activities into biometano, producing renewable gas sufficient for 12,000 people annually while generating 100,000 tons of organic fertilizer per year. The initiative targets a reduction of over 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and aims to strengthen Spain's energy security by leveraging domestic organic waste resources. KamBIO will collaborate with local farmers, cooperatives, and public administrations to tailor projects to regional needs, creating stable employment in rural areas to combat depopulation. The company emphasized the strategic alignment with European policies promoting biometano as a key renewable energy source for decarbonization and agricultural sustainability.
