Kanadevia Inova, Nareva and Itochu sign landmark waste-to-energy partnership for Casablanca facility in Morocco
Type: Partnership · Technology: Biomass · Country: Morocco · Capacity: 126 MW · Announced: 2026-08-11
Kanadevia Inova, Nareva and Itochu signed a partnership to develop the Casablanca Waste-to-Energy facility in Greater Casablanca, Morocco, delivering 126 MW of baseload electricity plus 50 MWp of solar PV and 4 MW of landfill‑gas generation. The 33.5‑year concession will treat about 1.5 million tonnes of municipal solid waste annually, raising waste‑valorisation to roughly 80 %. Kanadevia Inova will provide the EPC contract, operations support, long‑term maintenance and financing, while Nareva acts as lead investor and Itochu contributes international technical expertise. The project, located next to the Mediouna Landfill, is expected to produce around 1 TWh of electricity per year and supply nearly one million residents, supporting Morocco’s 3 % annual electricity demand growth through 2030. By shifting waste from landfill to energy recovery, the facility will cut greenhouse‑gas emissions by up to 1 tCO₂e per tonne of waste and create about 140 permanent skilled jobs and 1,240 construction jobs. The agreement includes provisions for future carbon‑capture integration, aligning the plant with long‑term decarbonisation pathways.
