KERSHIP delivers first OPV 60M offshore patrol vessel to Montenegro

Type: Partnership · Technology: Defense · Country: Montenegro · Announced: 2026-09-11

KERSHIP, a joint venture between PIRIOU and Naval Group, launched the PETAR NJEGOS I, the first of two OPV 60M offshore patrol vessels ordered by Montenegro, at its Lanester shipyard on September 11, 2026. The vessel features a CBRN cell, hull-mounted sonar, and dedicated capabilities for diver and Special Forces operations, equipped with the POLARIS mission management system by Naval Group. The program is part of a defense agreement signed between France and Montenegro in April 2024, supported by the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA). The next major milestone will be the delivery of PETAR NJEGOS I to the Montenegrin Navy in April 2027, with the second vessel PETAR NJEGOS II scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2027. The construction brings together KERSHIP and PIRIOU's shipbuilding expertise with Naval Group's combat systems and equipment integration.
