La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (La Caisse) committed approximately $1.28 billion to acquire a 24% stake in Altius Telecom Infrastructure Trust, India’s largest independent telecom tower platform. Brookfield Asset Management, already the largest investor in Altius, joined La Caisse alongside existing shareholders including affiliates of GIC Private Limited and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI). The investment values Altius at INR 504 billion (approximately $5.34 billion), with La Caisse’s stake representing INR 121 billion ($1.28 billion). Altius operates over 258,000 telecom towers and sites across India, providing critical infrastructure for mobile operators to deliver 4G and 5G services. Emmanuel Jaclot, executive vice president and head of infrastructure and sustainability at La Caisse, highlighted the strategic importance of the deal, stating, 'As India’s economy grows and more people and businesses rely on higher use of mobile data, the infrastructure behind those connections needs to keep pace.' The transaction underscores the partners' long-term commitment to scaling digital infrastructure in one of the world’s fastest-growing telecommunications markets. Sam Pollock, CEO of Brookfield’s Infrastructure group, emphasized the firm’s ongoing support for Altius’ growth through its owner-operator capabilities and disciplined investment approach.
