Li-S Energy secures regulatory approvals to supply lithium-sulfur battery cells to U.S. defense and drone markets

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Storage · Country: Australia, United States · Announced: 2026-05-18

Li-S Energy, an Australian battery technology developer headquartered in Brisbane, secured regulatory approvals to airfreight prototype lithium-sulfur battery cells from its Geelong production facility in Victoria to the United States. The approvals, granted by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority for outbound shipments and by the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration alongside the Federal Aviation Administration, enable direct supply to U.S. defense, drone, and government customers for evaluation and integration trials. The company’s bespoke regulatory pathway supports its expanding commercial pipeline and supply chain positioning in the world’s largest defense market. Li-S Energy’s lithium-sulfur cells deliver an energy density of 498 Wh/kg on first discharge and 456 Wh/kg after formation cycling, with ongoing testing confirming continued performance. The approvals position Li-S Energy to engage U.S. defense prime contractors, drone manufacturers, and government agencies on an end-to-end basis, from cell evaluation through pilot supply.
