Lightyears and Meridian Energy sign power purchase agreement for 13.5 MW Reefton Solar Farm in New Zealand

Type: Ppa · Technology: Solar · Country: New Zealand · Capacity: 13.5 MW · Announced: 2026-06-01

Renewables developer Lightyears initiated construction on the 13.5 MW Reefton Solar Farm in New Zealand’s South Island, marking the project’s power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned electricity gentailer Meridian Energy. JA Solar will supply nearly 21,000 DeepBlue 5.0 n-type solar modules for the 20-hectare facility near Reefton, representing the first overseas deployment of this high-efficiency module technology. The project is expected to generate approximately 18 GWh of clean electricity annually, sufficient to power nearly 3,000 homes and businesses on the West Coast. Mechanical installation is being led by contractor New Energy, with Lightyears positioning the project as its largest development to date and fifth community-scale solar initiative in New Zealand. The Reefton Solar Farm aligns with Lightyears’ strategy to deploy distributed solar projects that integrate with local landscapes and support regional energy security.
