Lointek supplies 50 MW / 300 MWh liquid air energy storage system to Highview Power in the UK

Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Storage · Country: United Kingdom · Capacity: 50 MW · Announced: 2026-05-29

Lointek, a Basque engineering firm, signed a supply agreement with Highview Power to design, manufacture, and deliver thermal systems for the UK's largest liquid air energy storage (LAES) facility. The 50 MW / 300 MWh CRYOBattery project, located in the United Kingdom, will store renewable energy by cooling air to cryogenic temperatures and converting it to liquid for later expansion through turbines to generate electricity. Highview Power, which formed a joint venture with Spanish engineering group TSK in March 2019 to develop cryogenic energy storage projects, expects the system to operate for up to six hours and enter commercial operations in 2027. The infrastructure is engineered for a lifespan exceeding 50 years, leveraging molten salt storage technology. Highview Power previously announced plans for over 4 GWh of storage projects across the United States, Europe, and Latin America.
