Masdar has secured up to £97 million in project financing from SMBC and ING for its battery energy storage facilities in Rochdale, Welkin Road, Chesterfield, and Cardiff. These projects contribute to Masdar's £1 billion commitment to developing a 3 GWh UK battery storage pipeline. The Rochdale facility, with a capacity of 35 MW / 70 MWh, has already commenced commercial operations, providing grid-balancing services. The Welkin Road facility, at 20 MW / 40 MWh, also began commercial operations in December 2025, while the Chesterfield and Cardiff projects have a combined capacity of 150 MW / 300 MWh.
