Type: Development · Technology: Solar, Onshore Wind, Hydro · Country: Italy · Announced: 2026-06-18
The Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) has signed the definitive FerX decree, which allocates a total of 37.15 GW of new renewable energy capacity. This decree follows the European Commission's approval on June 8th, deeming the aid measure compatible with the internal market. The decree will enter into force the day after its publication on the MASE website. Within sixty days of its entry into force, MASE will approve the operational rules for accessing the mechanism, proposed by GSE. The allocated capacity includes 10 GW for plants up to 1 MW that access the support mechanism directly, and the remaining 27.15 GW for larger plants that must participate in competitive public procedures managed by GSE. The competitive procedures will make available an estimated 16.5 GW for wind power, 10 GW for photovoltaic, 0.63 GW for hydroelectric, and 0.02 GW for residual gases from purification processes.
