Massachusetts activates 20-year power purchase agreements with Vineyard Wind offshore wind project
Type: Ppa · Technology: Offshore Wind · Country: United States · Capacity: 806 MW · Announced: 2026-04-28
The US state of Massachusetts activated 20-year power purchase agreements with the 806MW Vineyard Wind offshore wind project, developed by Iberdrola and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The contracts are projected to save Massachusetts ratepayers $1.4 billion over the lifetime of the agreements, according to Governor Maura Healey's office. The 62-turbine array had previously supplied power to New England's wholesale electricity market during the winter of 2025-2026. Governor Healey highlighted the cost-saving benefits amid rising energy prices driven by geopolitical tensions, emphasizing the role of American-made wind power in reducing costs and enhancing energy independence. Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper noted that the long-term contracts were designed to maximize customer savings while accelerating the deployment of renewable energy supply.
