MB Energy and Zaffra form partnership to develop eSAF supply chain infrastructure for aviation sector

Type: Partnership · Technology: Hydrogen · Country: Germany · Announced: 2026-06-11

MB Energy and Zaffra signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing the infrastructure and supply chain capabilities required to scale synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) production and distribution in Europe. The partnership will focus initially on the Brandenburg eSAF project, a joint venture between Zaffra and ENERTRAG that aims to produce over 30,000 tonnes of eSAF annually at the PCK refinery in Schwedt, Germany, starting in 2030. MB Energy will act as a potential offtaker for Zaffra’s eSAF volumes, leveraging its established network of storage terminals and logistics capabilities to support distribution across Europe and to airline customers. The collaboration also includes designing an end-to-end logistical concept for Zaffra’s eSAF project portfolio, with potential exploration of hydrogen supply integration through MB Energy’s New Energy Gate infrastructure project in Hamburg. The partnership is expected to enhance European energy resilience by diversifying fuel supply chains and supporting regional employment through construction, operations, and logistics activities.
