ExxonMobil Mozambique, representing the Area 4 partners, issued a letter of intent to McDermott Energy Solutions (UK) and the SMDC joint venture for limited engineering and procurement services related to the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 midstream development in Mozambique. The SMDC joint venture includes McDermott, Saipem, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation (CPECC), with McDermott handling liquefaction module engineering from its London and Gurgaon offices. The onshore Rovuma LNG project will feature 12 modular liquefaction modules with a total production capacity of 18.6 million tonnes of LNG per year, targeting a 2031 start-up. The work supports ExxonMobil's progression toward a final investment decision expected in 2026, building on McDermott's prior FEED experience for the same project.
