McDermott secures EPC contract for QatarEnergy's North Field East gas expansion project
Type: Supply Agreement · Technology: Oil Gas · Country: Qatar · Announced: 2026-06-16
McDermott International secured an EPC contract to deliver offshore infrastructure for QatarEnergy's North Field East (NFE) expansion project, a critical component of Qatar's LNG growth strategy. The scope includes installing offshore platforms, subsea pipelines, and related facilities to transport natural gas from the North Field to new liquefaction plants at Ras Laffan Industrial City. Despite operational constraints from regional conflicts, McDermott continued work on the project, expecting to deliver its portion on schedule once conditions stabilize. The NFE expansion aims to increase Qatar's LNG export capacity by approximately 32 million tonnes per year, reinforcing its position as a top global LNG exporter. The onshore liquefaction plants are being built by a consortium led by Technip Energies, which is handling engineering, procurement, and construction for the onshore facilities. Regional logistics challenges, including disruptions to shipping flows through the Strait of Hormuz, may impact project timelines, with delivery speed dependent on infrastructure repair priorities and geopolitical stability.
