Meitner Energy, a company with Argentine and US capital, announced a $1.2 billion investment to construct Argentina's first private-sector nuclear reactor at the Atucha complex in Lima, Buenos Aires province. The project involves building the ACR-300 reactor, a 300 MW small modular reactor (SMR) that will be the first commercial version of this technology globally. The reactor will be financed entirely with private capital and is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs during development, construction, and operation phases. Meitner Energy is 40% owned by Black River Technology (BRT), which is controlled by Invap, a technology company owned by Argentina's Río Negro province, while the remaining 60% is held by Grupo Ansari, led by US-Iranian billionaire Hamid Ansari. The project aims to be admitted to Argentina's new 'súper RIGI' investment incentives regime currently under parliamentary debate.
