Meridiam refinances €80 million Netcity Telecom bond in Bucharest

Type: Financing · Technology: Telecom · Country: Romania · Value: $91M · Announced: 2026-07-24

On 24 July 2026 Meridiam and its partners closed an €80 million ($91 million) refinancing of Netcity Telecom in Bucharest. The refinancing was led end‑to‑end by Meridiam and involved an international institutional investor, an international bank and a Romanian bank as lenders. Netcity Telecom operates a 3,000‑km underground telecommunications network serving about 70,000 buildings and nearly 600,000 homes and offices in Bucharest. The long‑tenor bond, with maturities up to 26.5 years, sets a benchmark for Romanian infrastructure financing and will fund future expansion of the fiber network and new digital infrastructure under the city’s Smart City programme. Meridiam holds an 80 % stake in Netcity Telecom, with the remaining 20 % owned by E‑INFRA Group, positioning the refinancing to strengthen its telecom portfolio. The transaction marks the first project‑finance bond issuance in Romania, highlighting the market’s growing appetite for long‑dated infrastructure debt.
