Midsummer acquires building and secures financing for 50 MW CIGS solar module factory in Bari, Italy
Swedish thin-film solar specialist Midsummer AB acquired a 3,880 m² building in Bari, Italy, and invested €50 million ($59 million) to establish a fully vertically integrated 50 MW CIGS solar module factory. The facility, operational since 2024, produces Midsummer SLIM and BOLD modules using proprietary DUO systems and EU-sourced materials, avoiding imports from China or Russia. The Bari plant features two production lines—one for solar cells and another for modules—with the cell line utilizing ten DUO machines capable of producing one solar cell every 20 seconds. The project received a €16.5 million grant from Italy’s national investment agency, supporting the €50 million total investment. Midsummer also operates a smaller 5 MW line in Stockholm and is constructing a 200 MW factory in Flen, Sweden, expected to begin commissioning later in 2026.
