MITECO awards Narcea 400 kV node to Acciona for 320 MW pumped-hydro power plant

The Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has awarded the Just Transition Contest for the Narcea 400 kV node to La Barca Energía, a company belonging to Acciona. Acciona will develop a 320 MW pumped-hydro power plant, committing to investments exceeding 400 million euros. The project is expected to create up to 289 jobs for at least 12 years during the operation and maintenance of the reversible hydroelectric plant. Acciona will invest 323 million euros in Asturias' value chain for the generation facilities, along with two million in biodiversity conservation and one million in circular economy activities. Additionally, the company will provide 211,585 hours of training and install 4.4 MW of self-consumption capacity benefiting 452 consumers in the area.
