MN8 Energy, Eos Energy Enterprises, and Google agree to develop Mammoth Solar project with 86 MW solar and 80 MW / 380 MWh battery storage in West Virginia
Type: Partnership · Technology: Solar, Storage · Country: United States · Capacity: 86 MW · Announced: 2026-09-03
MN8 Energy, Eos Energy Enterprises, and Google have formed a partnership to develop the Mammoth Solar project in Kanawha County, West Virginia, combining 86 MW of solar generation with 80 MW / 380 MWh of battery storage. The project includes a 70 MW / 280 MWh lithium-ion battery system and a 10 MW / 100 MWh Eos Z3 zinc-based long-duration storage system, with the latter providing 10 hours of storage. MN8 Energy will own and operate the project, while Google will purchase the energy, capacity, and clean energy attributes to power its regional data centers, including a planned facility in West Virginia. The solar farm is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, followed by the lithium-ion battery in 2029 and the zinc-based storage system in 2030. The project will be built on a reclaimed coal mine and is expected to require up to $350 million in capital investment, creating approximately 200 construction jobs and generating around $4 million in property tax revenue for the county and local schools over its first 20 years.
